Reception Services

Reception Services

Receptions are situated in each of our accommodation areas, and are manned by staff who have a wealth of knowledge about our accommodation and the Canterbury campus.

Your college reception is where you will collect your keys/fob when you first arrive and where you'll return them to before you leave. You can go to receptions to collect mail, to regain access to you room if you lose your fob, for general queries and signposting or for basic first aid. During the summer vacation our receptionists are also responsible for checking-in/out and assisting B&B guests.

Check your college reception opening hours (including any altered hours) below.

Ordering from Amazon? We have three Amazon lockers on campus that you can order to and access day or night. They are located by Keynes College T block, Darwin Houses and Woody's in Park Wood.

Postal deliveries

Whether you are expecting a letter from home, your latest Amazon order or something else, it is important to know how to collect your mail while living on campus.

When ordering items you should:

  • Check you have used your full correct delivery address and are using your name as it appears on your student card. Check your correct address format in this PDF (48KB).
  • Try and arrange for delivery at a time when you or your flatmates are home, as otherwise, you can only collect your parcel from reception during opening times. Where your house/flat has a front door (such as in Keynes, Park Wood or Turing Flats and Houses) couriers should always try to deliver here first.
  • All parcels delivered to reception need to be logged and signed for, so if your parcel has been delivered to reception, please wait until you have received an email notification from reception before you try to collect. (Sometimes we receive a lot at once, and we don't want you to waste a journey to reception because your parcel isn't ready yet!)
  • Take your KentOne ID when collecting mail/letters.  You can only collect your own mail unless you have written permission from the other student (emailed to reception).
  • Check for letters too. If you don't have a letter box, your letters will be stored at reception, but you won't receive an email notification for these so check about every week or two.
  • Ordering from Amazon? We have three Amazon lockers on campus that you can order to and access day or night. They are located by Keynes College T block, Darwin Houses and Woody's in Park Wood.
  • Please note we can't accept deliveries of fresh/frozen foods at reception (e.g. a supermarket delivery) so make sure you book a delivery slot when you are available to collect your order.
  • Don't order any prohibited items (as listed in the Accommodation Handbook or the Accommodation T&Cs section 8.9)

Don't forget you'll also need to update your delivery address or get your mail redirected when you move out (even if it's just for summer) to ensure your mail continues to reach you as we can't accept mail for students not currently residing on campus.

What to do if you lock yourself out or lose your fob/keys

Always lock your door when leaving, but remember sometimes the door will auto-lock so always keep your fob with you (even if popping to the kitchen) to prevent lockouts.

If you do lock yourself out, or lose your fob, go straight to your college reception. They can issue you a temporary access card so you can get back in your room. If you don't have your KentOne Card you'll be asked some security questions to check that you are the student living in that room (note temporary access cards can't be given to anyone other than the room occupant).

If you are locked out after reception hours contact Campus Security on +44 (0)1227 823300.

You have 24 hours to return an access card to reception for a lockout, and one week to return it if you have lost your fob to give you time to find it. Issuing a card is free, but if you do not return a temporary access card by the agreed date you will will be charged for its replacement. These are charged at the purchasing cost, so the fee will vary depending on the type of key or fob you have. You can check the cost for replacing your key/fob at reception or online by checking our fob charge sheet (PDF 92KB). Please note that when a new fob is created your old one is automatically overwritten and will no longer work, so should you find your original fob at a later date this cannot be re-activated or refunded.

Campus Security and Maintenance

Our 24/7 Campus Security team are on-site to help keep you safe offering a variety of services including emergency assistance. Outside of reception hours Security can also let you back into your room if you lock yourself out.

You can call security on +44 (0)1227 3300 (non-emergencies) or using the SafeZone app

If you find a defect in your room that needs to be repaired you will need to report this online using Home at Halls to the Estates Maintenance team who will come to repair it. The only exception is where you have an emergency fault in chick case contact reception or Campus Security direct immediately.

Please note if a member of the Maintenance team repairs a fault whilst you are out they will lock the door upon departing so please keep your fob on you when leaving.
