Council Tax Certificates

RESEARCH POSTGRADUATES - Different arrangements apply to you read this

Council Tax Certificates are required by local councils as evidence of student status before exemption for council tax can be granted. You are only be exempt from paying council tax from your course start date to completion date. If your tenancy agreement starts before or goes beyond these dates, you will be liable for council tax for that period .Council Tax Certificates are provided by the Student Records Office in the Registry.

ALL STUDENTS PLEASE NOTE:

Council Tax certificates will only be issued to students who are fully registered students AND have no outstanding finance issues.If you are not fully registered or have an outstanding debt your document will not be authorised.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Please note that we are now entering our busiest time of the year and so any document requests may take up to 10 working days to process.

PART-TIME STUDENTS PLEASE NOTE: You must be undertaking 65 credits or more per Academic Year in order to qualify for Council Tax Exemption. If you are undertaking less than 65 credits per Academic Year, you will not be eligible for Council Tax Exemption and will be liable to pay Council Tax.

Certificates are only available to students for the period in which they have been registered full time. If you are resitting or repeating year on a part time basis ( 60 credits or less per year) you will NOT be eligible for Council Tax Exemption.

Getting your Exemption Certificate

In order to provide you with improved facilities KENT has implemented a new secure on line service for issuing Council Tax certificates. On logging into the site you will need to supply some basic security details so that we can validate your id. From this site you will be able to

  • request your council tax certificate
  • manage the release of your Council Tax certificate to the council allowing them to verify the information online the University’s web site

IMPORTANT: When logging into this system you will be given a unique User ID.

PLEASE KEEP A NOTE OF THIS AS YOU WILL NEED IT IF YOU WISH TO ACCESS THE SYSTEM IN FUTURE.

 

REQUEST DOCUMENT

If you live within either the Canterbury City , Medway or Dover District Council areas you can send your certificate directly to your council via the Digitary system - read the guidance notes on how to do this
