Things to do before you go

  • Read carefully the information given by your host, the Go Abroad team or your Division.
    • Complete the required forms/documents and meet the deadlines set
    • Discuss your module choices with your Academic Co-ordinator
  • Attend any pre-departure briefings arranged by the Go Abroad team and your host university
  • Ensure that you have a valid passport. 
    • This should be valid until at least six months after your planned return date
  • Apply for your visa in good time.
    • Follow the instructions given by the Consulate/visa issuing authority carefully.
    • Be prepared to obtain additional documents or get documents translated or notarised as part of the application.
  • Notify your bank that you will be abroad and make financial arrangements
  • Apply for any pre-sessional language/orientation programme that’s offered
  • Organise accommodation at your destination
  • Make contact with other students
  • Arrange your travel
  • Make sure you know where to go and what to do on arrival

Things to do when you arrive

  • Take any necessary documents with you to your employer/host university, e.g. passport, evidence of insurance
  • Register with your host university
    • Finalise your modules/timetable 
  • Get your arrival certificate and Learning Agreement signed
  • Register with the local authority, if this is required
  • Keep in touch with Kent!
