What is Clearing?

Clearing is an opportunity to explore your options if things have changed. Is there a new subject that excites you? Are your grades not quite as you expected? Applying for a course in Clearing is a fantastic way to make sure you get the right course for you, whatever your situation.   

Key Clearing dates

30 June 2022

UCAS deadline

This is the last chance to apply through UCAS before Clearing opens. Any applications received after 18:00 (BST) on this date will be entered into Clearing. 

5 July 2022

Clearing opens

If you have your results, you may be able to apply for a Clearing place as early as 5 July. If you haven’t, now is a good time to take a look at course vacancies and get ahead with your research. 

18 August 2022

A level results day

Congratulations – you’ve got your results! Whatever your reason for using Clearing, you’ll be able to search and apply for our courses from 8am. Kent’s Clearing hotline will be open between 8am and 8pm on 18 and 19 August 2022. 

19 September 2022

Start of academic term

Although not guaranteed, we may still consider applications received after this date. Our registration deadline is 10:00 on Monday 17 October. 


The Clearing process at Kent was one of the smoothest I experienced. Because I could apply online – I didn’t have to phone up, they phoned me. That was really lovely.
