There’s loads of additional support for mature students at Kent. This includes a Mature Student Society as well as events and study sessions which are run at times which are convenient if you have other responsibilities (e.g. job and childcare).
We aim to support students no matter their age and have a welcome page for new mature students starting at Kent.
Kent Union have also organised a Welcome Day for all new mature students starting this September. Book a place.
Mature Student Society
Kent Union has a Mature Student Society with acts as a forum to promote the challenges and needs of students over the age of 23. For more information and events you can visit the Kent Union website.
Your Kent Union Mature Students Officer for this year is Christine Bishop.
We run free study skills training for mature and part-time students called VALUE Map.
Most of the sessions take place at the weekend so it fits around childcare and work. Book a workshop.
The training will help you to develop learning strategies to help you succeed in your specific degree.
Student parents/carers support
Canterbury and Medway offer great environments for families, with a wide range of child-friendly facilities and a perfect mix of city, coast and countryside. If you are planning to bring your family with you when you study, this page has links to useful information including accommodation, schooling and healthcare.
We strongly advise new students with children to travel to Kent alone, in advance of starting their course, to make all the arrangements for housing and schooling and to get a sense of the local area, before bringing their families to join them. Deciding where to live may be affected by a range of factors including the proximity to schools and other family-focused services.
Many current Kent postgraduate students with families are happy to pass on their knowledge to new arrivals, while other more formal support is available through our Graduate School. Our Postgraduate International Families Network also gives student parents the opportunity to connect and socialise with other families and to receive notifications of upcoming events. For more information on please visit the Kent Graduate School website.
