  • Notes:

The lithograph on the cover shows a sailor and a girl parting against the backdrop of the Dublin Custom House and a waiting two-masted sailing ship. In the foreground, on the ground is a bundle tied to a shillelagh (Irish walking stick). There is a signature in the bottom right corner, but it is difficult to decipher, possibly W. Brandon L[ithographer?].

"'The Colleen Bawn' means, literally, 'the fair girl;' applied as a pet-name, as in the song and in the celebrated drama so called, it becomes a term of endearment.'
