Staff and PGR email

University email for staff and research postgraduates.

Log in at Outlook.Office365.com

  • Go to outlook.office365.com
  • Log in with your Kent IT account username followed by @kent.ac.uk not your full email address, for example: abc12@kent.ac.uk

Microsoft Outlook (Windows)

Set up Outlook on the Kent network

Open Microsoft Outlook and the setup process should run automatically. If you are asked for the mail service/ type, choose Microsoft Exchange.

Set up Outlook off campus

  1. Click Start
  2. Control Panel
  3. Mail (can’t see it? Click Switch to Classic View or View by: Small icons)
  4. Click Show profiles…
  5. Add… and give the profile a name (eg, ConnectMail)
  6. OK.
  7. Enter your name and Kent IT Account details (under Add New E-mail Accounts).
  8. Next.
  9. There may be a few minutes’ delay whilst a script is running.
  10. When prompted to login, you might need to choose Use Another Account.
  11. Enter your username is this format: UKC\abc1 (replace abc1 with your own IT Account username)

Android email

By putting email on your Android device, you agree that we can remote wipe your phone it if it is lost or stolen. If it were wiped, you would lose all data on the device. We need this option to make sure University data isn't compromised

How to set up email:

  1. Go to email settings and choose set up email
  2. Choose Office 365 or Exchange Office 365, you might need to configure manually:
    • for manual seetings enter your email address and username as username@kent.ac.uk
    • change the server to: outlook.office365.com
    • make sure 'Use secure connect (SSL) is ticked
  3. Sign in using the format username@kent.ac.uk (the username is your Kent IT Account username, for example: abc12)
  4. Enter your password
  5. Choose how long you want to sync email for, and whether you want to sync contacts, calendar and tasks. Click Done
  6. You need to click OK to the Remote Security Administration warning, and Activate the device administrator: this allows us to remote wipe your device if lost or stolen (it means losing all data on the device in order to protect University data).

 

iOS (iPhone or iPad) email

Find the option on your device to add an email account and click Add Account, then:

  • Choose Microsoft Exchange
  • In the Email field, enter username@kent.ac.uk (the username is your Kent IT Account username, for example: abc12)
  • If asked whether you want to configure manually or sign in, choose sign in
    • Enter your password on the Kent branded login screen that appears
    • Choose whether to sync mail with contacts, calendars, reminders and notes
    • Save
  • If manual settings are required, use the following:
    • Server: outlook.office365.com
    • Domain: leave blank
    • In the Username field use the format username@kent.ac.uk again
    • Choose whether to sync mail with contacts, calendars, reminders and notes
    • Done

How to keep your personal and work contacts separate:

  1. Using Microsoft Outlook on your computer, create a new folder called 'phone contacts'
  2. On your iPhone, navigate to your contacts and tap the Groups button
  3. You should now be able to see the 'phone contacts' folder that you created earlier. Tap it.

This will now act as the default contacts folder on your iPhone, and is where you should sync the contacts from your computer.

Windows phone

Tap Settings > Email & Accounts > Add an Account > Advanced Setup and then:

  • Tap Email address and enter your Kent IT Account username in this format: 
    username@kent.ac.uk
  • Tap Password and enter your Kent password
  • Tap Next
  • Tap Exchange ActiveSync
  • Under the username enter your IT Account username in this format: 
    username@kent.ac.uk
  • Domain: leave blank
  • Server: 
    outlook.office365.com
  • Server requires encrypted (SSL) connection
  • Give your account a name (eg Kent or Uni)
  • Untick the defaults if you don't want to sync the Kent calendar and contacts with your device
  • Tap Sign In

This means student usernames will be in the University address book and students may be able to see your calendar.

  1. Settings

  3. Passcode Lock
  4. Turn Passcode On
  5. Set Passcode

How to set an Android PIN

From your home screen, go to:

  1. Applications
  2. Settings
  3. Location and Security
  4. Set up screen lock
  5. Tap on PIN
  6. Enter a PIN of your choice
  7. Re-enter your PIN
