Yammer is for University-wide staff social networking. It's an informal and secure communications tool that lets you engage with colleagues across Kent.

Introduction to Yammer

As a University-wide staff social network, you can use it to:

  • Interact with Kent news: you can like and comment on posts
  • Join or set up a community group: it can be work or leisure-related such as a book club, walking group etc. It can be open for anyone to join, or private (join by request)
  • Connect with and follow colleagues from across Kent

Should I use it daily?

How much you use Yammer is up to you; it's optional

It certainly isn’t something that you need to keep up with. It's for social and informal discussions. You shouldn't miss anything key if you don't use it for a while.

If you want to, use it to discuss the deeper meaning of life, the universe and everything – or share your cat photo to make someone smile! Or not. It’s your community and your University of Kent online social space, to use in whatever way works for you.

How to get Yammer

  • Log into office.com with your University of Kent account
  • Choose Yammer from the apps list, or search for it in the central search box
  • Enter your username as username@kent.ac.uk

You might need to complete a second security step when off campus (MFA).

To use it on mobile: download a Microsoft Yammer app from your phone's app store.

Email notifications

When you first use Yammer you'll start getting email notifications with posts and messages from the main University, and from any community groups you've joined. You can unsubscribe directly from the email if you prefer not to receive future updates.

In Yammer, you can switch off some or all email notifications in Settings:

  1. Open Yammer
  2. Click the Settings cog icon in the top menu, the Edit settings
  3. Choose Notifications from the top menu
  4. Untick any notifications you won't want to receive in future, and click Save
