Short Term Loans

The University can lend students who are suffering from financial difficulty, an amount of money to help with their immediate essential living costs, such as food and essential travel.

The University can offer you one or two types of loan, depending on your circumstances.

Access to Learning Fund

The Access to Learning Fund (ALF) provides discretionary financial assistance for UK students to access and remain in higher education, particularly those students who need financial help to meet extra costs that cannot be met from other sources of support.

Students should be aware that ALF is intended to act as a safety net for those in financial difficulty, rather than a main source of income. Overseas and EU (other than UK) students are not eligible to apply.

European Financial Support

The European Financial Support fund (EFS) can provide discretionary financial assistance to all full time non-UK students registered at the University of Kent and eligible to pay tuition fees at the ‘EU’ rate, and all non-UK University of Kent students (including overseas rate fee-payers) studying abroad as part of their degree programme.
