About

Rachel is a Senior Lecturer and Programme Leader at the University of Winchester. Rachel programme leads the BSc Health, Community and Social Care Studies and is currently involved in the creation of new programmes at degree and postgraduate level. She has a background in working with and for a range of young people and adults including disabled people and those who have intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Rachel has a background of managing residential services with and for people with dual diagnoses.  She was Director of the Work based Learning for the Faculty of Education, Health and Social Care at the University of Winchester for 10 years previous to her current role; a role which involves income-generation through providing bespoke and PSRB training and  consultancy to a range of statutory and charitable organisations and groups in the field of health and social care. 

Rachel holds a BSc first class (hons) health and Social Care from the Open University (2005) and a MA Education with distinction University of Winchester(2012). 


  

Research interests

Rachel's PhD is part of a larger NIHR funded project considering the impact of austerity and the Care Act (2014) on the experiences and understandings of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.  Her PhD is funded by a Vice-Chancellor's scholarship and will focus on how the social networks of people with IDD and their carers may be impacted by austerity and the Care Act 2014.
