Before joining the School of Social Policy, Sociology and Social Research in 2014 as a part-time Lecturer in Social Work, Rhian Taylor was a practice manager in a Local Authority Youth Offending Team. Her previous social work experience includes managing a 16 plus team for Looked After Children and care leavers, working with unaccompanied minors, and with foster carers. She also lectured for the Open University for ten years.
Rhian also works part time as an Associate for In-Trac training and consultancy, where she delivers training, reviews and consultancy to local authorities and social care providers. In-Trac specialises in social work supervision which is one of Rhian’s particular research interests.
Rhian’s first degree was in English and Politics at York University. She completed her social work training and MSc in Social Policy and Social Work in 1997 at the London School of Economics and her Practice Teachers Award and Post Qualifying Child Care Award at Canterbury Christ Church University.
Rhian’s research interests include the role of reflection and supervision in social work practice and practice education.
Rhian teaches modules on undergraduate and postgraduate social work programmes.
