Using your answer booklet

This page offers guidance on adding additional elements to your exam answer booklet, such as equations, graphs and code.

General tips

  • The guidance on this page isn't exhaustive, if you have another method you are already comfortable with, then use it.
  • Give yourself enough time to be able to explore additional methods if you need to.
  • Consider using pen and paper. You can then take a picture with a phone or webcam.
    • You can save the image to OneDrive on your phone, and download it to your computer via the OneDrive web app.
    • Otherwise, email the images to yourself and download them onto your PC from your email.
  • If you are taking a picture with your iPhone, you may need to disable HDR mode.
  • If in doubt, submit your answer booklet to the Turnitin inbox and then open it. If it doesn’t display correctly, try a different method of adding the graph/code/equation and try again.

If you need to add a few lines of handwritten text, it is fine to do this via photos.  If you need large paragraphs to explain your working, we would recommended that you type this unless you have been explicitly told by your School that you can hand-write and photograph your full answers.
