Moonrise Kingdom (12a)

The gorgeously realised trailer for Wes Anderson’s Moonrise Kingdom promises that this will be a rare treat, especially for lovers of his work (including The Royal Tenenbaums, The Life Aquatic, The Darjeeling Limited).

Set on a picturesque island off New England in the 60s, Anderson follows a young boy and girl as they run away together, causing various factions of the town to mobilise to search for them, and as chaos - of a wittily deadpan, beautifully styled kind - ensues. Anderson fills his colourful world with delightfully guileless characters including Bruce Willis as the town sheriff; Edward Norton as a camp leader; and Bill Murray and Frances McDormand as distracted parents in this almost absurdly pleasing film.
