BYG Science at Kent

8 November 2017

September saw the British Yeast Group's (BYG) annual meeting held this year at the University of Kent. This popular meeting, which attracts researchers from across the UK and further afield, was hosted by the Kent Fungal Group (KFG) and supported by the Microbiology Society. Three days of excellent talks on all aspects of yeast biology were interspersed with poster sessions and social events and provided an important opportunity for KFG members to present their research in a stimulating and interactive environment with Elliot Piper-Brown and Laura Petch both winning prizes for the talk and poster respectively. Among the many highlights of the meeting were Dan Klionsky from the University of Michigan describing the process of autophagy in yeast with the help of modern dance and piano, and the conference BBQ which included the musical talents of KFG's very own Campbell Gourlay and Patrick Rockenfeller.
