Canterbury campus visitors

Already have an IT account?

If you have been given an IT account from your conference / course organiser, you can:

  • Use student PCs on campus: log in with your IT account details. Student PCs are located in all colleges and in the Templeman Library. A visitor pass (Access Only card) for the Library is available from the Security and Reception Desk in the main entrance.
  • Use the Internet from bedrooms: before you connect (the service is not available in Beverley Farmhouse) you must secure your PC from viruses. Then before turning your PC on, plug a red network cable from your PC to the white socket in the wall (get a cable from your accommodation reception or IT Reception). Login to your PC, open a web browser and follow on-screen instructions.
  • Use the Eduroam Wireless Service: available in the social and teaching areas of most buildings on campus (excluding bedrooms with the exception of Beverley Farmhouse). Some initial setup is required before you can connect to the Wireless Service.
  • Access campus printers: you first need to install a printer on your laptop. Your IT account includes a £2 overdraft facility: to buy more see paying for printing
Staying on campus?

For £10 per month (or part thereof), visitors who are staying on campus can hire an IT account from IT Reception that provides:

  • Wireless for visitors: available in the social and teaching areas of most buildings on campus (excluding bedrooms with the exception of Beverley Farmhouse). Setup wireless
  • Access to campus printers: you first need to install a printer on your laptop. Your IT account includes £2 overdraft facility: to buy more see paying for printing

Visitors from other institutions

If your institute is a member of JANET, you can connect to the Wireless service for free:

  • using your local username and password (and you may need your institute’s realm name).
  • you may need to already be registered to use your local institution's wireless service.
  • you may need to configure your PC for Kent: follow the Wireless setup instructions.
  • levels of access vary: local software and printers are not available.
