New Student Checklist

Before you arrive and during your first few weeks at Kent, there are a few important things you’ll need to do. We’ve outlined the key steps below to help you get started - read them carefully and tick them off as you go.

What to do before you arrive

Organise your finances 

  • If you haven't already, apply for University accommodation through the Kent accommodation portal
  • Complete your Accommodation E-Induction and book your arrival slot you’ll get an email closer to arrival   
  • Review what’s included and pack essentials: bedding, kitchenware, etc. 
  • Living on our Canterbury campus? Download the Home@Halls app to complete your room inventory when you move-in.
  • Living off campus? Remember to get personal possessions insurance (if not provided).

For students joining from outside the UK 

  • Prepare your documentation required for your student visa - use your CAS and supporting documents to apply including any TB testing certificates if necessary   
  • Sign up for our pre-sessional English courses.
  • Arrange travel insurance and optional health coverage. 
  • Buy a UK SIM card or mobile plan

  • Register for Exam Adjustments – whether because of religious or accessibility reasons you need to let the University know.
  • Complete compulsory modules before you arrive.
  • Check if there’s a reading list or pre-arrival prep for your course.
  • Attend pre-arrival webinars or online events hosted by your academic school.
  • Borrow, don’t buy essential books or equipment – our libraries aim to provide access to all books and resources listed on reading lists   

Make sure you have both physical and digital copies of: 

  • Passport
  • Kent offer letter
  • Academic certificates/transcripts – bring original copies
  • Accommodation confirmation & Arrivals Pass
  • Bank details & funding confirmation

Also, for International Students 

  • Immigration documents
  • Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS)
  • Proof of finances
