Research data management means organising your data and looking after it from its creation through to publication and beyond. You need to manage your data to keep it safe and secure, save time and effort and meet funder and publisher requirements.

What is research data?

Research data is any recorded information that supports or validates research observations, findings or outputs. It includes:

  • notebooks and lab books
  • survey results
  • interview transcripts
  • still images, video and audio
  • experimental observations, models and software
  • text corpuses
  • sketchbooks.
