Bringing Community Together

In October 2021, iCCi brought the 3.5m high puppet Amal to Canterbury.

Thousands of residents turned out to welcome her; she was met by a fox puppet created by Kent students, as she walked with school children from the city centre to the University Campus.

That evening Gulbenkian hosted Refugee Tales, an evening of migration stories, at which Amal was a special guest.

The Walk with Amal was a huge community project with international profile; it involved students and staff from a number of departments across the University; it highlighted one of the University’s key research themes (Migration and Movement) and our wider Civic Mission.
