Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder that impacts between 5-10% of people. People with ADHD have trouble with impulse-control, focusing, and organisation. If you have been diagnosed with ADHD, please register with Student Support and Wellbeing so that we can discuss how we can help you.

Characteristics

People with ADHD may have difficulties with:

  • Concentration
  • Being unable to sit still
  • Impulsive behaviour
  • Organisational and time management skills
  • Completing tasks or assignments
  • Misplacing or losing possessions
  • Feelings of frustration
  • Restlessness, sometimes causing sleep difficulties
  • Engaging in risk-taking behaviour
  • Hyperactivity and impulsivity (less common in adults)

Diagnosis

If you are a current student and you feel that you may have ADHD, we recommend that you register with Student Support and Wellbeing.

You will then be offered an appropriate screening which may identify any difficulties followed by an appointment with a Disability and Neurodiversity Adviser to discuss next steps.

Your adviser may recommend that you see your GP for further support.
