Using Academic.edu can help you to create profiles that summarise your research, enable you to upload your publications for others to find, ​help you to find and follow other researchers, and get platform specific metrics that indiciate the readership and reach you have on those sites.

Academia.edu is a business that exists to make money using your products. Using this platform cautiously will help you to avoid any potential reputational damage to your academic profile. If you choose to use Academia.edu to share your research, it's worth considering:

  • What will happen to your content if they go out of business?
  • ​If there are any privacy implications
  • ​If you are breaking copyright law​
  • If this is in conflict with agreements you have with your funder and publisher.

Get started with Academia.edu

Create an account

  • Sign up by creating an account using yor email, or sign up with Facebook or Google
  • Use an email that is personally associated with you
  • Answer a few questions about your role and your publishing activities
  • Choose either the Free or Premium (paid) version.

    • Build your profile

    Go to 'My Profile' to add or change your profile picture and add a biography. From here, click on Edit to add and edit your affiliations, contact details, social profiles, research interests, and to add your CV. From here you can also add, remove or rearrange your profile sections and upload your reseach works.
