All students conduct a full-time research project in the area of their specialisation, chosen from a wide range of topics available from our current research portfolio. This period of benchwork may involve a placement in an industrial laboratory and culminates in the submission of a written research dissertation which forms an important component of the assessment procedures. Additionally, students will be asked to produce a poster for presentation at the annual Postgraduate Symposium and a talk at the conclusion of their studies.
We expect that graduates from the course will be qualified to make an important contribution to industry in the specialist area they have chosen, or possibly pursue training to PhD level in a separate degree. Overseas students, especially those from countries still developing a Biotechnology-based industry, will be able to return to their native country with qualifications to enable them to initiate or direct relevant research.
