Team Kent Cogniscance claim Runners Up Prize in the inaugural “ABP Biz Psych Cup”

Ten weeks of intense work culminated last week in the virtual presentation of posters by the six student teams participating in the this inaugural competition.

Huge CONGRATULATIONS to Tiara English, Alina Sendrea and Ashley Chong of Team Kent Cogniscance, for taking the runners up spot at the Asoociation for Business Psychology ‘Biz Psych Cup’!

Each university team was made up of 4 members – 2 undergraduate and 2 postgraduate students (excluding PhD students)  – who worked together to provide business psychology research, advice and recommendations for action to resolve business challenges set by our corporate members. The inaugural competition ran for 10 weeks with 6 great student teams from the Universities of Kingston, Loughborough, UEL, UWE, Kent and James Cook University (Singapore). Teams prepared a psychology ‘poster’ in the format of the American Psychological Association (APA).

The challenge for the Kent team came from NatWest, ‘How can an organisation/individual recover trust once trust has failed and instil trust even when communicating a negative message?’. You can see their response in poster form above.

The Kent team has also been invited to present their poster to the wider team in Natwest – which is a great testament to their work.

An incredible achievement and a brilliant incentive, designed and launched by Dr Dawn Nicholson. It brings together business and academia to give students exposure to real clients and experience of applying psychology skills to solve real business challenges.

Commenting on the result, Dr Dawn H Nicholson said “We are so proud of all of the teams and everyone who came together to support this inaugural event and make it such a success. These were real business problems, researched and solved by Business Psych students. All of the teams did a great job but the teams from UEL and Kent are to be commended for the way they approached the challenge, the quality of their posters and their excellent client presentation. This is absolutely something I want to build and grow – so I am already thinking about next year’s event and increasing the number of teams”.

Team Kent Cogniscance have also been invited to present their poster to the wider team in Natwest – which is a great testament to their work.

Tiara English, Alina Sendrea and Ashley Chong are studying for a BSc Hons in Business Psychology
