Psychology graduate Rianna Patterson selected as a finalist of the Commonwealth Youth Awards.

The awards also serve to inspire other young people to take action in their communities.

Alumna Rianna Patterson has been selected as a regional finalist of the 2022 Commonwealth Youth Awards.

Organized by the Commonwealth Youth Programme, the awards recognise outstanding Commonwealth young people (aged 15-29), whose projects are transforming lives in their communities; providing practical solutions to complex problems and helping to achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals and 2030 Agenda. The Commonwealth’s 54 member countries have a combined population of 2.5 billion people, of which more than 60% are under 30 years of age.

More than 1000 entries were received this year – the highest ever recorded. The finalists were selected across each of the award’s regional categories (Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, Europe & Canada, and the Pacific) following a rigorous judging process.

Rianna says that her time at the University of Kent also allowed her to form international partnerships between UK organizations and the Dominica Dementia Foundation.

“It is an honor to be selected for this award, I am very grateful for the significant contributions of the team, mentors and advisors.”
