About

Dr Quentin qualified as a barrister in 2005 and went into employed practice in the corporate tax team at Allen & Overy LLP, subsequently practising at Farrer & Co LLP and finally at Stone King LLP.

As a practitioner they advised on all aspects of UK direct and indirect tax, with a particular focus on

(i) complex corporate, financial and property transactions

(ii) international issues

(iii) charities

(iv) disputes with HMRC

They left practice in 2018 to pursue an academic career, and completed a PhD on the political economy of international corporate tax reform in 2020. 

Alongside their practice and their research activities, they have participated in a wide variety of tax justice campaigns and policy initiatives, including a stint as tax policy researcher to the All Party Parliamentary Group on Anti-Corruption and Responsible Tax.

Research interests

Dr Quentin’s research interests include

  • tax avoidance
  • international corporate tax norms and global value chains
  • the state, capital, and the corporate form
  • value theory in classical political economy and in contemporary Marxism

Supervision

Dr Quentin is available to supervise doctoral research on any topic relating to (i) UK or international tax law, or (ii) principles, policy and political economy of taxation.
