Stock Liquidity, Institutional Ownership and R&D Innovation-The Evidence from UK listed companies

With the advancement of economic globalization and the development of science and technology, the competition between countries is no longer limited to the competition of commodity prices and costs. R&D innovation ability is the fundamental factor determining a country's long-term stable development (Demirel & Mazzucato, 2012). Looking at the world's economic powers, whether in the United States, Germany or Japan, the concept of R&D and innovation has penetrated into the national bone marrow, and the emerging high and new technologies play an increasingly important role in its economic development.
Specifically, firms hold a large quantity of capital in a country, and their steady and rapid development is of great significance to the nation. Following the researches of Bloom and Reenan (2002) and Hall et al. (2005), the stability and growth of a company's long-term value depends on the maintenance and drive of innovation.
Therefore, it is necessary to study the factors that affect the innovation activities of an enterprise.
Starting from institutional investors, the study mainly explores whether the heterogeneity of institutional investors and the activities of different types of institutional investors would affect the stock liquidity of firms, and then their R&D innovation efficiency.
