Dr Li-cheng Chang

About

Dr Li-cheng Chang obtained his PhD in Accounting from the University of Manchester. He joined Kent Business School in 2011 as a Senior Lecturer in the accounting group. He teaches management accounting at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. He undertook the programme directorship for MSc in International Accounting and Finance between 2012 and 2017. He previously worked at the University of Southampton where he was the programme director of MSc in Accounting and Management Science. 

His research focuses primarily on performance-related issues in the National Health Service. He has published several papers in reputable accounting journals.

Research interests

Dr Chang's research primarily focuses on performance related issues in health care settings. He has been using various research paradigms and methods to examine the interplay between accounting change and organisation change. 

In particular he pays great attention to the impact of political interests upon the changes in performance measurement systems in English National Health Service. He has also examined the extent of power struggles between patients and health regulators and their impact upon accounting technology. He has recently expanded his research to corporate governance and CEO remuneration in NHS Foundation trusts. 

Teaching

Managerial accounting techniques and management control; performance measurement and employee motivation. 

Supervision

Dr Chang supervised a PhD student conducting research in cost management in the NHS when working at the University of Southampton. He also supervised a PhD student studying the interplay between performance measurement and employee motivation at Kent Business School.
