Entry requirements: Turkey

At Kent we consider all applications on their individual merit and welcome students from Turkey with a wide variety of qualifications and experience. Please note that some departments may have slightly different entry criteria.

Foundation programme entry requirements

Students from Turkey wishing to pursue a foundation programme at Kent will need to obtain a final grade of at least 70% or 3.5/5.0 in their High School Diploma (Devlet Lise Diplomasi or Lise Bitirme Diplomasi)

Students from highly ranked high schools with a final grade of at least 75% or 4.0/5.0 may be considered for direct entry to the first year, depending on their scores in key subjects.

We offer 1-year subject-specific foundation programmes in Actuarial Science, Chemistry, Computer Systems Engineering, Electronic and Communications Engineering, Forensic Science, Mathematics and Physics. Entry to these may require you to have studied specific subjects at high school.

We also have an International Foundation Programme which gives you a year’s preparation in academic subjects, English language and study skills up to the level required for entry to a degree programme. The programme provides entry into a wide range of Bachelor degrees in our faculties of Humanities, Social Sciences and Sciences.

Undergraduate entry requirements

Turkish students with a High School Diploma (Devlet Lise Diplomasi or Lise Bitirme Diplomasi) from a highly ranked high school may be considered for entry to Year 1 of a Kent undergraduate degree programme, with a minimum final grade of 75% or 4.0/5. Students from other schools with very high grades may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Applicants will also be considered with a minimum final GPA of at least 3.0/4.0 in their Önlisans Derecesi or Diplomasi from a recognised state or private university. Students with very high grades may be considered for 2nd year entry on a case-by-case basis if they have studied similar content to Year 1 of the relevant Kent undergraduate degree.

Postgraduate entry requirements

For entry to a Kent postgraduate degree programme (Master’s), Turkish students typically need to have completed a Lisans Diplomasi from a recognised state or private university. Exact requirements will depend on the postgraduate degree you are applying for and the institution you have studied at.

  • For programmes that require a 2:1 we usually ask for a final CGPA of 3.0/4.0. Students from highly ranked universities may be considered with a final CGPA of 2.8/4.0
  • For programmes that require a 2:2 we usually ask for a final CGPA of 2.7/4.0

Some, but not all, postgraduate programmes require your undergraduate degree to have a related major. Some postgraduate programmes may require work experience in a relevant field or at a certain level.

PhD

For entry to a Kent PhD programme, Turkish students typically need to have completed a Yüksek Lisans Diplomasi/ Yüksek Mühendis Diplomasi from a recognised state or private university with a final GPA of at least 3.0/4.0. Students need to have completed a thesis as part of their course or be able to show other evidence of previous research experience.

If you would like to pursue a PhD at Kent, you should visit the relevant department website to identify potential supervisors for your research and thesis. You are encouraged to then make direct contact with the appropriate academic to discuss your research proposal.

English language requirements

Applicants will also need to meet University of Kent standard English language requirements.
