Course overview

On our Drama and Theatre course, you'll benefit from exceptional teaching and industry links that will help you to launch your career. Covering a wide range of subjects and developing your practical skills as well as critical thinking, this dynamic course allows you to explore your own style and creativity as well as follow your passions and ambitions. 

We'll challenge you with theoretical and practical study, empowering you to shape your degree around your areas of interest. You'll work alongside fellow students, creating new work and new ways of seeing established works. Our team of academics, professional practitioners, and technical specialists will support you every step of the way as you analyse, create and critique, developing your understanding of drama and theatre and becoming a more confident performer.

Your year abroad takes place between your second and final year of study; you can either study at a partner institution or work. It's a great opportunity to discover a new culture. Course structure

By studying drama, theatre and performing arts at Kent, you'll be able to explore your interests and discover your strengths. From physical theatre to puppetry, acting to directing, stand-up comedy to community arts, you blend practical work with academic study, developing your critical understanding alongside creative skills.

How you'll study

Teaching is through workshops, seminars, lectures and practical projects. Most modules are continuously assessed on the basis of coursework, projects and presentations, performances, essays and dissertations.

The School of Arts works hard to maintain strong relationships with professionals and venues, helping to launch your career in the creative and cultural industries. You’ll be taught by leading actors, comedians and makers with first-hand experience of what it takes to carve out a successful career in the arts. Graduate Theatre Scheme
Through this scheme we support past students to set up companies and remain in Kent. Professional companies who started with us include: The Pantaloons; The Noise Next Door; Three Half Pints (stars of Spot Bots) and the Olivier Award-winning Little Bulb Theatre, pictured above.

Fees and funding

Tuition fees for 2024 entry

The 2024/25 annual tuition fees for this course are:

For students continuing on this programme, fees will increase year on year by no more than RPI + 3% in each academic year of study except where regulated.*

Fees for year in industry

Fees for undergraduate students are £1,850.

Fees for year abroad

Fees for undergraduate students are £1,385.

Students studying abroad for less than one academic year will pay full fees according to their fee status.

The following course-related costs are included in your tuition fees:

  • Props and costumes for practice/performance pieces/student work
  • Tickets [excluding travel costs] for compulsory theatre trips

The following course-related costs are not included in your tuition fees:

  • Optional textbooks (approx. £50 in stage 1; £50 in stage 2; £50 in stage 3)
  • Optional trips/theatre tickets (around £45 per year, based on 2-3 theatre trips per year) and travel costs
