About

Lisa is a Computing Teaching Fellow based at the Canterbury Campus.

She worked in industry for 13 years, programming on IBM midrange computers, firstly as a trainee computer programmer whilst studying for the British Computer Society examinations. She progressed to analyst programmer and ultimately became a systems analyst before taking a break to bring up children.

Lisa made a career change in 2006 when she won three scholarships to study for a degree in music technology at Kent, whilst also teaching music practice, music technology and IT key skills at Mid-Kent College, taking a PGCE the following year. She then joined the School of Music and Fine Art at the University of Kent, teaching modules for the BMus and BMus(Popular Music) programmes, she also studied for a PGCHE and was the musical director for The Little Big Band until the department closed.

Lisa returned to her roots in 2017 to teach computer science in the School of Computing, teaching at both the Medway and Canterbury campuses. She completed a Master's degree in Computer Science with Distinction in 2021.

Teaching

Lisa's main focus is introductory programming, using the Java programming language to teach object oriented programming. Drawing upon 13 years of industry experience, Lisa also specialises in software engineering and human computer interaction (HCI), and teaches the skills required to analyse user requirements and design user interfaces. Having worked on large IBM databases, Lisa also teaches a range of database skills such as MySQL and PHP alongside other web-design and programming skils.
