- Dr Matt Robins
Dr. Matt Robins graduated with a 1st class honours (BSc) and Distinction (MSc) in Sport and Exercise Sciences from Cardiff Metropolitan University in 2002 and 2003 respectively. Matt then completed his PhD at Sheffield Hallam University, with the thesis entitled: "Constraints on movement variability during a discrete multi-articular action." Matt has worked as a (Senior) Lecturer since 2007 and has previously worked at Nottingham Trent University (2007-2011) and the University of Chichester (2012-2022) where he was responsible for designing, delivering and coordinating the sports performance analysis provision at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. Matt is a Sports Performance Analysis specialist and has extensive experience creating innovative, industry focused curricula which have yielded outstanding employability. Matt also has considerable links with industry across a range of sports. Currently, Matt is a Lecturer in Sport Science and Performance Analysis within the Division of Natural Sciences.
Matt's research interests are principally within the field of Sports Performance Analysis. Specifically, Matt is interested in: (1) the variability of sports performance, (2) the performance analysis-learning interface and how performance analysis insights support player learning and development, (3) team coordination and perturbations during sports competition, (4) alignment between training microstructure and match performance, (5) performance profiling, and, (6) devising performance analysis templates for the comprehensive assessmnet of individual and team performance. However, Matt has a broad, general interest in the technical and tactical assessment of sports performance across a range of team sport invasion games.
