Greater protection of computer communications is the aim of a new research centre headed by Dr Eerke Boiten.

The Centre for Cyber Security combines technical expertise from the Schools of Computing and Engineering & Digital Arts and others in Sciences with knowledge of the social, legal and psychological context from the Faculty of Social Sciences.

It was recently recognised by GCHQ and EPSRC as an Academic Centre of Excellence in Cyber Security Research.

Current projects in the centre include cryptography, investigation of cyber crime, and measurement of influence in social networks.

The centre actively engages with public debates on internet security, cyber crime, and privacy issues such as health data, surveillance, and big data.
