Kieran holds an MSc with distinction in Political Communication from Kingston University, London. While at Kingston he was also awarded the Political Communication Prize for the highest total of marks on his course, and for achieving a distinction in his dissertation entitled "A party that has outgrown outbidding? An analysis of election campaigns conducted by the Ulster Democratic Unionist Party since 1998".
Prior to studying at Kingston, Kieran worked as a Lecturer in social sciences at various colleges of further education in the North of England, and as a full time carer.

Kieran's research interests cover British politics, the politics of Northern Ireland, theories of democracy, deliberative democracy, nationalism and discourse analysis.
His PhD project will consist of an examination of parliamentary discourse in representative institutions in the United Kingdom. The aim will be to assess what factors influence the incidence of deliberative discourse among elected representatives, with particular reference to the impact of nationalism.back to top
