Learning on Screen Nomination for Dr Harmonie Toros
28 April 2017
The School of Politics and International Relations were delighted to have recently been nominated, in collaboration with Think Kent, for a Learning on Screen Award.
The Learning on Screen Awards are curated by the British Universities Film and Video Council, now in their 13th year, they are the only UK awards celebrating moving image and related media production in learning, teaching and research. Since their launch in 2004 the awards have consistently given wider recognition to student filmmakers and producers of educational material.
Dr Harmonie Toros was nominated for an award in the General Education Non-Broadcast category as part of our collaboration with the Think Kent project, a series that aims to share academic research globally and to make learning more accessible to a range of audiences.
The awards ceremony, held at the BFI London, took place on Thursday 27th April 2017 and recognised 41 innovative nominations, with winners announced across 11 categories covering educational documentaries, cutting-edge learning resources, outstanding student films and MOOCs. In the General Education Non-Broadcast category, Dr Toros’ video Negotiating with Terrorists – an alternative path to security? was nominated alongside three excellent videos covering a topics from diabetes in pregnancy, to the refugee crisis. The winners on the night were CTVC Ltd and TrueTube for their hard hitting film REFUGEE, a film that seeks to address the refugee crisis to Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 students, helping them understand the terrible experiences faced by those fleeing war and unrest, using familiar characters and settings.
The School is extremely proud of Dr Toros’ success in being shortlisted and would like to thank Nathan Crouch in the University’s International Recruitment Team for producing this series. We would also like to congratulate all the winners of this year’s Learning of Screen Awards; both the winners and nominees were extremely deserving, submitting inspiring and thought provoking pieces.
