Academic Career

Paul has been at the University of Kent in the School of Arts since 2000. He was made Professor of Theatre and Performance in 2003. He has supervised many MA and PhD students from all over the world, with a special interest in Practice as Research. His own work focuses on Polish contemporary theatre and actor training, with expertise in Asian and physical approaches. He has extensive experience of research and grant management, as a REF coordinator and Faculty Associate Dean, REF 2014 panelist, consultant (currently for the Conservatoire for Dance and Drama) and research reviewer, including for Italy, Lithuania and Singapore as well as numerous UK organisations. He has had over 20 grants, big and small. As Dean of the Graduate School he will draw on this extensive research and management experience as well as his ongoing professional theatre practice.
