Kent shortlisted for Outstanding Library Team in THE Awards 2019

The University has been shortlisted in the Outstanding Library Team category of the Times Higher Education (THE) Awards 2019.

This award ‘recognises outstanding work in library and information-services departments, in particular with regards to collaboration with other administrative and academic departments to enhance the team’s delivery, and the effective use of leading-edge practices from other sectors’.

The Library Team’s collaboration with colleagues from a range of Schools and departments on the University’s accessibility project OPERA and its Student Success Project contributed significantly towards its shortlisting. Its Collection Engagement Strategy, through which it connects with local communities, alumni and other libraries, and the Kent Book Club – created alongside Kent Union for students who want to discover new books and resources outside of their academic studies – also played an important part.

Kent’s Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Karen Cox said: ‘Many congratulations to Library colleagues for their latest awards achievement. They have made a huge contribution to many important projects within the University and I wish them best of luck for the ceremony.’

John Sotillo, Director of Information Services, added: ‘Our Library and IT services are an integral part of the academic activity of the University and I am delighted that Information Services staff have been recognised for the excellent work they do to enhance the academic experience of our students.’

An annual event, this year’s THE Awards will take place on 28 November at Grosvenor House Hotel, London.

Kent has previously won THE awards in the category Outstanding Support for Students; once for the Student Success Project and once for OPERA.

The Library Team is part of Information Services.
