This extensive collection of over 2,000 works on science and technology, mainly of the seventeenth, eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, was deposited in the library by Dr. R.E.W. Maddison. The works of Robert Boyle (1627-1691) and Joseph Priestley (1733-1804) are particularly well represented.

Most of these books have been catalogued. However, a later consignment of books and working papers received after Dr. Maddison's death in 1993 has not yet been catalogued.
