Waste and recycling

Canterbury - off-campus

  • Know your rubbish collection day. The day your rubbish will be collected depends on where you live. Enter your address on the Council's website and see when you can expect a visit from the bin men.

  • Know your bins

  • Get your bins out by 7.00 – on your collection day and take them in ASAP after collection. It’s important you do this because if you leave rubbish on the pavement you could receive a penalty for fly-tipping.

  • Don’t dump – large household items (TV, sofa etc…). Give the Council a call on 0800 031 9091 and they will take it away for you.

  • If you miss the bin men – and you can’t wait another week or you’re going to miss the next collection because you’re going away/home – take your rubbish to the local tip.

  • Don’t leave a mess when you move out. Find out when you have to move out so you can start planning early. This will give you more time to recycle or donate anything you no longer need, and makes the whole move a lot easier and stress-free.

  • Missing a bin? Ask your landlord for a replacement.

For more information about rubbish and recycling, or if you have a question, go to the Council’s website.
