You said, we did campaign

YOU SAID, WE DID 2023

The Graduate and Researcher College (GRC) is passionate about ensuring the best possible experience for our Postgraduate students at Kent. Your feedback is vital to help shape our future activities. Through recent focus groups and annual surveys, we’ve listened to your feedback and have made (or are planning) the following improvements.

"We want further opportunities to present our research and meet with the wider research community."

  • Our new series of Research Cafes run throughout the academic year are structured themed sessions offering students the opportunity to share, learn and connect with other postgraduates. As an example, our May ‘23 Research Café provided an opportunity for three researchers to present their own research to fellow postgraduate peers in a safe, friendly and constructive space.
  • The GRC Researchers’ Showcase was given a new identity and purpose in response to feedback received from 2022. The new GRC Annual Postgraduate Conference provides postgraduates a chance to reflect on academic achievement and the excellent research being delivered by Postgraduates across Kent.

"PGR students are unsure on where to go for wellbeing support and advice."

  • We have gained reassurances from Divisional Student Support teams that PGR students are able to access services on an equal basis to all other students in each division.
  • We are continuing to work with the Student Support and Wellbeing (SSW) team, who are in the process of producing a report on PGR Inclusive Learning Plans (ILPs).
  • The GRC are working closely with SSW and Kent Union (KU) reviewing PGR Inclusive Learning Plans (ILPs), to ensure that they meet the needs of our PGR student cohort.

"Some GRC events are difficult to attend due to the timings."

  • We are reviewing our timings of all activities over the next academic year to make sure we have a variety of timings to suit everyone.
  •  The GRC are also reviewing the content of each activity and event ensuing there is a strong purpose or theme so that you get the most out of attending in person.

"We are unhappy about the University provision of space for postgraduates."

  • Many spaces across campus were not known about, so the following webpage has been developed to provide a directory of all PG spaces available: Postgraduate Study and Social Spaces.
  • The use of the Senate study hub is currently being reviewed, with a survey having been conducted into PC/laptop usage. The outcome of the survey coming soon!

"We would like to see more student related content."

  • Our PGT and PGR bulletins have gone through a recent refresh, now including a weekly highlight to celebrate student achievements. The bulletins are sent to your Kent email address every Wednesday.
  • The GradPost is a valuable resource that facilitates the exchange of knowledge, encourages collaboration, highlights the exceptional work carried out by postgraduate students.
  • Student Blog coming soon!
