Commonwealth Scholarships and Fellowships

Commonwealth Gender and Sexuality Fellowships are for mid-career professionals from low and middle income countries to spend a period of time at a UK host organisation working in their sector for a programme of professional development.

The Kent Commonwealth Professional Fellowship will provide a three-month programme of interdisciplinary investigation and professional development for three mid-career professionals working in the area of equality, inclusivity and diversity policy, with a particular focus on gender and sexuality.

During the programme, each Fellow will work with a University of Kent mentor and will be able to interact and explore different areas of EDI policy development and realisation, with the opportunity to give particular focus to their respective areas of interest and lived experience. Fellowship activities will span issues which explore the EDI policy at Kent and will involve identifying opportunities for local enhancement of policy implementation. The Fellowship will also allow participants to consider good practice in policy development and enactment which can be transferred to their own home working contexts. Each Fellow will be required to complete a report which identifies their areas of focus and the local benefits for Kent and their home institution.

Kent will support the Fellows during and post-programme through introducing them to key colleagues in our academic and professional services teams with experience and knowledge in relevant fields. Fellows will also be able to join relevant modules and courses which can inform and support their respective interests and missions. We will also incorporate opportunities to discuss relevant areas of focus with our international partner network and visit our Medway Campus. Participants can be academics or professional services colleagues who have an institutional responsibility, interest or research area connected to EDI policy.

The Fellows will be jointly hosted by the Global and Lifelong Learning and Academic Strategy, Planning and Performance - EDI Team.
