Dr Reshmi Dutta Flanders wins major Indian award

Hind Rattan Award by Dr Reshmi D-Flanders

The ‘Hind Rattan’ is one of the highest Indian National Awards granted annually in New Delhi to non-resident people of Indian origin.

Dr Reshmi Dutta Flanders, Assistant Lecturer in English Language and Linguistics in the School of European Culture and Languages received the Award at a ceremony in New Delhi.

The Award cited her ‘outstanding services and contributions for keeping the flag of India high.’

The Hindi phrase ‘Hind Rattan’ is translated in English as the ‘Jewel of India’. It is presented annually to 25-30 non-resident Indians (NRIs) worldwide by the NRI Welfare Society of India, an organisation under the umbrella of the Indian Government. The Award ceremony is attended by senior members of the Government of India and of the Supreme Court of India.

Dr Reshmi Dutta Flanders has been teaching at the University of Kent since 2003. After receiving her PhD degree in Applied Linguistics, she contributed to the educational programmes in the Unit of Enhancement of Learning and Teaching (UELT) and at the Centre for English and World Languages (CEWL). Dr Dutta Flanders joined the Department of English Language and Linguistics (ELL) as an Assistant Lecturer in 2010.
