Before joining the University, Vaishnavi worked for Standard Life in Edinburgh and also for Standard Life's joint venture in India, HDFC Standard Life. The joint venture was one of the first insurance companies to be set up after the insurance industry in India was opened up to private enterprise and Vaishnavi was part of the project team that worked on getting regulatory approval for the new company.
Her experience in the life industry includes treasury management, pricing, product development, valuation, and business planning.
Vaishnavi is a Fellow of the Faculty of Actuaries and qualified in 2005, and she is also a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries of India.
