The Bill Jenkins Award

£5,000 per annum, paid directly to the recipient in 3 equal instalments throughout each academic year.

This award can be renewed for the duration of the recipient’s studies (usually 3 or 4 years) subject to satisfactory academic progress.

Applicants must:

• Be assessed as Home tuition fee paying students
• Have accepted an offer for either of the below programmes for September 2026/27* (including Year in Industry and Year Abroad/professional Practice):
  • BSc Sociology
  • BSc Sustainable Societies and Global Sociology
  • BA Politics and International Relations
• Have made an application with the Student Loans Company for a tuition fee and/or maintenance loan. Priority will be given to applicants with a household income under £35,000 (as assessed by Student Finance)
• Upload a supporting statement to their scholarship application (details below)

• Be available for an online interview at the end of July or in early August

  * Applicants on courses including a Foundation year are not eligible to apply.

The Professor Bill Jenkins Scholarship Fund was established in memory of Professor Bill Jenkins, who served as Professor of Public Policy and Management at the University from 1971 to 2006. Created by his widow, Linda, the scholarship honours his lasting contribution to the University and reflects his lifelong belief that education should be accessible to all, regardless of financial background. Through this fund and with thanks to Linda, the University continues to support talented students in achieving their academic potential and future ambitions.
