Kent expert on knife crime and its causes in demand with media

Press Office

Dr Erin Sanders-McDonagh from SSPSSR has been widely cited in the media discussing the ongoing knife crime crises in the UK and how it can best be tackled.

The rising levels of knife crime in the UK is a major topic within the media at present. Dr Sanders-McDonagh, from the School of Social Policy, Sociology and Social Research (SSPSSR), is an expert in this area, including holding interviews with over 100 gang and former gang members in London about the reasons they carry knives.

Her research saw her asked to write a piece for The Conversation, which was also republished by The Metro. This led to interviews with LBC, BBC Radio Liverpool and Russia Today to discuss her findings and how the government should best curb this escalating criminal issue.

Academics interested in promoting their expertise through the media, either by expert comments or The Conversation, should contact the press office to discuss how this can best be achieved.
