Friends' Events and Visits

Friends are invited to join our weekly research seminars, and are welcome at a host of other open lectures and events organised by the University of Kent. We also run a series of tours and visits for Friends each term – this year's programme of events was as follows. We look forward to announcing more events and visits for our Friends in the forthcoming academic year September 2015-August 2016.

  • A tour of 'The Ancestors' exhibition at Canterbury Cathedral with its curator, Leonie Seliger - read a piece by Sheila Sweetinburgh
  • A visit to the 'Magna Carta: Law, Liberty, Legacy' exhibition at the British Library - read a review by Dr Julia Cruse
  • 'The Jews of Canterbury' - A virtual walking tour by Jonathan Butchers
  • 'The Re-establishment of Canterbury Cathedral Library' - a study session led by Dr David Shaw
  • Discovering Saint Stephen's of Hackington and the Manwood Monument - a tour led by Dr Sheila Sweetinburgh and Mary Berg

In the previous year, Friends took part in the following activities:

  • An Early Modern drama walking tour of Canterbury, led by Dr Sarah James
  • A Guided tour of Saint John’s Hospital, Canterbury led by Dr Sheila Sweetingburgh
  • Visit to 'The Vikings: Life and Legend' exhibition at the British Museum
  • MEMS Garden Party and guided tour of The Corona at Canterbury Cathedral
