Overview

Who do you want to be when you graduate? What are you career ambitions? This module seeks to help new KBS students to start thinking about their emerging professional identity and future career goals. It helps students to begin to take a reflective approach to their career development and supports them to see the relevance of their learning to the graduate labour market. It encourages students to see the importance of gaining relevant work experience prior to graduating and what they need to do to secure this. It also introduces them to the employability enhancing opportunities and the support available to them from across the University, professional bodies, and external organizations.

Learning outcomes

The intended subject specific learning outcomes.
On successfully completing the module students will be able to:

- Understand the concept of career readiness and its relationship to professional identity and career goal setting (whether in organisations or as an entrepreneur).
- Understand the graduate recruitment process and what employers are looking for in applicants, including the importance of gaining work experience and being able to demonstrate commercial awareness at application and interview.
- Develop an awareness of the employability enhancing opportunities and support available to them from across the University.
- Create a CV to facilitate their employability and job applications.
- Reflect on their own learning using the KBS Assurance of Learning Goals and University of Kent Graduate Attributes including their relevance to the workplace and future learning opportunities

On successfully completing the module students will be able to:

- Communicate effectively and confidently about their employability and what they've learned across a variety of contexts
- Effectively self-manage, using their initiative to identify relevant career opportunities that will support the development of their employability.

  1. Credit level 4. Certificate level module usually taken in the first stage of an undergraduate degree.
  2. ECTS credits are recognised throughout the EU and allow you to transfer credit easily from one university to another.
