Title of study: Image and Narrative in Ovid's Metamorphoses

My research encompasses Ovid's use of simile and ecphrasis and how he employs these devices to focus attention on 'artists' within the text. I am considering who is intended to be the viewer of the ecphases and how this reflects Ovid's attempts to be innovative whilst retaining traditional rhetorical practices and paying homage to a long history of ecphrastic literature.
