Gary Hughes

Two articles for The Conversation addressing the 'Castro conundrum' and Trump's plans for Cuba - 'America's closest enemy'.

Dr William Rowlandson, Senior Lecturer in Hispanic Studies in the School of European Culture and Languages (SECL), discusses the contradictions surrounding the presidency of Fidel Castro in his article Fidel Castro: Cuban conundrum fought for freedom but entrenched state power, published by The Conversation on 26 November. The Conversation (France) also published a translated version of this article on 28 November.

In an earlier article, titled Cuba on alert to see what Trump has planned for America’s closest enemy, Dr Rowlandson also addresses the numerous questions surrounding Cuban-American diplomatic relations following the election of Donald Trump.
