Centre for Medieval & Early Modern Studies

Postgraduate Life

All our postgraduate students participate in the weekly research seminars which sit at the intellectual heart of the Centre’s acticities. Distinguished external speakers, members of the Centre staff and advanced research students are invited to contribute papers, which are the subject of lively questions and discussion.

The Centre has a strong tradition of organising academic conferences that include significant levels of research student participation. Recent examples of highly successful conferences organised and led entirely by doctoral students include Contextualising the Fifth Crusade (April 2012) and Me Fieri Fecit: the role and representation of owners, donors andpatrons in medieval art (May 2012). Academic staff are keen to encourage such initiatives, for which practical and financial support are available from the Centre and from the Faculty of Humanities.
