Research students participate in the weekly Centre research seminars, as do the taught MA students. This seminar is at the heart of our discussion and development of our research as staff and students. Distinguished external speakers, members of the Centre staff and, from 2008/09, third-year research students, will contribute papers to this forum, and the students are supported in this by their supervisors and the Director of Research who convenes the seminar.
The Centre has a strong tradition of organising academic conferences that include significant levels of research student participation. Recent examples are the international conference CIHEC British-Dutch Colloquium on 'Religious Leadership' (April 2008). A research student Colloquium on 'The Audience in Medieval & Early Modern Studies' took place in December 2008, and we hosted a reception for the Marlowe Society (July 2008). An AHRC international postgraduate conference was held in December 2009 'Bad Behaviour in Medieval and Early Modern Europe'. Another AHRC postgraduate conference is jointly being hosted by the Centre and St Andrews Institute of Mediaeval Studies at the University of St Andrews in April 2010 on 'Explaining Supernatural Nature: Mediation between Image, Text and Object in the Middle Ages'. The Royal Historical Society is sponsoring our postgraduate conference on 'Use & Abuse in Public and Private Spaces in Late Medieval and Early Modern Towns' to be held on 8th-9th July 2010.
