George Conyne was born in the United States and took his undergraduate and law degrees at Haverford College and Tulane University respectively.After clerking for a trial court judge, was graduated from Cambridge with a Ph.D. in History in 1989. After teaching at University College London, Keele and Birmingham, he taught history and American Studies at Kent, 1990-2018.He is currently finishing a book on the U. S.and is working on a study of ‘Quakers and the American Civil War’, the judicial integration of the American South and on the historiographical problem of Adlai Stevenson.
