This page contains guidance for if your visa has been refused by UK Visas and Immigration.
This is a different process to if you have been told that you can't get a CAS or if you have been informed that your Student sponsorship will be withdrawn.
What do I do if my Student visa application has been refused by UKVI?
Occasionally, there are times when a visa application may be refused. Even if you meet the requirements and receive a CAS from the University of Kent, UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) may refuse the application on other grounds.
As a Student visa sponsor, the University of Kent must adhere to Home Office requirements and it is possible that you will not be able to continue or start your studies as planned if your visa is refused.
1. Provide a copy of your visa refusal letter to the appropriate team:
- Students starting a new course should email the Admissions CAS team
- Current students should email the Student Immigration Compliance Team
If your visa was refused on credibility grounds, we will also require a copy of the interview transcript which you could request at the time of your interview or through the visa application centre where you had your interview.
2. Seek advice from the Kent Union Advice Centre, an independent immigration specialist, or solicitor immediately, and before you take any further action. They can check the Home Office decision and you will be advised on which options are available to you and how this may affect your planned studies.
Request a new Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS)
If your application was refused by UKVI and you have applied for an administrative review (appealed), you may not be issued a new CAS until a decision has been made.
If you have been advised to make a new Student visa application, you will need to request a new CAS by emailing the appropriate team:
- Students starting a new course should email the Admissions CAS team

If you have been refused for financial reasons, we will ask for evidence (ie bank statements) which show that your issues have been rectified. If we are not satisfied that you will successfully obtain a visa, we will not be able to issue you another CAS.
